Free topic yay !

Free Topic... You know what this means boys and girls... For those who don't like historical studies or find them boring, you can leave now :P Right, now that those who are uninterested are gone, let's talk about history ! Many of you may know this tongue-twister, be it from your parents or your English teacher  - "She sells sea-shells by the seashore." It seems like a really simple, a sentence used to practice pronunciation of words starting with "s". Well, there's actually hidden history behind this simple sentence. Enter, the Princess of Paleontology, Mary Anning. Not a familiar name, isn't it ? Well, Mary Anning was the first person to discover a variety of fossils, from the ichthyosaurus to raptors. Although, her discoveries were not credited to her at the time, and few know about her name now... Many people did not know the existence of dinosaurs at the time, and so when fossils as such were debated in the halls o...

Minggu Pusat Sumber (library week) in School

Minggu Pusat Sumber. Where our good friends in the library present a topic/theme in the library for one week. For this year, they decided to go with the exciting and yet somewhat controversial Korean theme. Both North and South included. Maybe they're influenced by the reason meet up with Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump in Singapore ? Who knows ? Anyway, it marks a historical date where finally the 60 years~ war, The Korean War, to be precise, is ended. The library is filled with facts, trivia and of course my favourite, historical studies regarding Korea as a whole. It is also filled with K-pop which isn't my thing, but I'm not complaining hearing music as an audiophillic person. What disappointed me is that they included far less information about the man who saved Korea, and frankly, without him, Korea wouldn't even exist. Admiral Yi Sun Shin that saved Korea, with the help from China from a large scale invasion by Japan declared by Emperor Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Sti...

Academic Day In School

Academic Day. The one day where either you as a student will dread, or love. Depends on your examination results and your overall performance in school... It's a day where most parents take their time off to pay a visit to teachers responsible for that result of yours. Discussing how and why you failed... Civics ? Hmm, now I'm intrigued. My parents didn't go as its the 21st century and everything requires more money than usual. So they were at work and couldn't care less to come. But as a prefect, I couldn't leave early anyway. So instead, I'll rely on other's experiences. Some of the parents came around 7.00 am ~ which is quite impressive given how on the paper sent to every household said 7.30am. But hey, no one was sweating the details. Greeting and bowing to every parents that came by was pretty tiring, but as a prefect duty is always a priority. Wow that rhymed. As time slowly passed by, so did the amount of parents that walked through th...

Hari Raya Celebration in School

Hari Raya. A glorious celebration for our Islamic friends. A holiday for others. It was quite a rare sight to see friends wearing different traditional clothing after getting used to seeing them in boring ol' uniforms. Frankly, it felt quite weird. Me being a boring person didn't wear anything special :P. And the moment where Malaysian culture truly shines is when you see a Chinese student wearing Malay traditional clothes and vice versa. We've truly come thus far to witness such scene when 60 years ago we were all separated under British rule. An announcement called for all students and teachers into the hall. A lot were people were into the mood, wearing an assortment of traditional clothing, be it from Malay or Indian to Chinese, then there are the more eccentric ones that I would not mention here. The teachers too were dressed as such. Malay music filled the hall as a play ensued after a long and inspirational  speech by our lord and saviour Encik Ganapathy. T...
