Thesaurus Quizzes

M.

Well, I'm glad the exams are over as shit as my results can be :P. Let's jump straight into this blog.

Thesaurus. Everyone likes using them, right? Just in case you have no idea what exactly is a thesaurus, I'll explain here. Unfortunately, its not a name for a newly discovered dinosaur, though that is probably going to be the laziest name I can think of other than "Ekans" and "Arbok", which are snake-type Pokemons. In case you didn't get that, rearrange the words from back to front.

Anyway, a thesaurus is where you can find synonyms and antonyms for a word. It's like a dictionary, but instead of finding definitions of a word, you'll find several renditions of it. It is certainly most useful when you need to write the same thing in the same paragraph twice, reducing the amount of repeated words, and ultimately makes your essay/blog/whatever-that-is-you're-writing much more interesting and less boring. All in all, a good tool.

So recently Pn Monica introduced us this quiz generating websites that utilize a thesaurus to generate synonymous words. You're given one of them, and out of a selection of four words, you need to select the correct one in 10 seconds. A pretty fun challenge to my mind, so here are some of my attempts.

I only got a decent result after like, 3 tries, so it proves that I need more reading to get better results.

Either way, it's still a pretty fun game to my mind. Allows you to pass the time while learning a few new words to bolster your English language knowledge.

Give it a shot here: Vocabulary Quiz

I think that's it for this blog post. Have a nice weekend.

Cheers,
Chua.

Optimism / Pessimism Bias

Welcome back, friends. Exam weeks was long and harsh, but now it's over. Hooray! As for the blog posts, they're starting again and this time, oh boy, free topic for days (at least I hope so). So fasten your seat belts as we explore more random topics for no apparent reason. Today's Topic : Optimism/Pessimism Bias "Great, another bias. What's next? K-Drama bias? Anime bias? Jeez, at least talk about something positive." Well, positive things aren't always fun to write. So... cliche and boring. I rather dig into negative stuff just to find out what causes them and how we can solve them. Doesn't  that sound positive to you? Either way, let's jump into today's topic. I'm going to cover both Optimism bias and Pessimism bias in the same blog post, because they usually are found together in a statement. But before that, let's ask ourselves this common question that is used to test optimism and pessimism. Is the cup half full or h...

The Philosophy of Tetris

"I am the man who arranges the blocks, that continue to fall from up above..." I believe most of you of you know what Tetris is. Most of you are likely to have played it, or at least heard about it. Be it the charming 8-bit music, the satisfying beep after a line is completed, or just the blocks that fall into place one by one, filling the gaps, I"m sure that we all can agree upon the fact that Tetris is one of the best classic game we have ever played. While I was revisiting the game, trying to break another player's high score, I realize that, even in a simple game such as Tetris, which has the main goal of trying to get the best score you can through stacking blocks and aligning them, I can't help but think of the true meaning of Tetris. So today, let's explore the philosophy behind the Tetris. Keep in mind, that this is my opinion. Feel free to judge... constructively. First concept You don't have to be perfect to fit in Before we jump into...

Writing a 10 word story

Welcome back folks. Sadly, it seems that third time isn't a charm. Oh well, back to basics. Anyway, I hope you had a good week. I'm sure many of you had written essays throughout your lifetime. Whether its an essay for school which is usually 200 ~ 400 words long, a story (length may vary) or even a thesis paper (thousands). Depending on your age and level of English education of course. Personal record, 13 thousand words in a story named Chrono Switch . I assume you already read the title and hence clicked on this post for... actually why did you clicked on this post? Either way, we were instructed to write a ten word story, with the word "spooky" being mandatory in the story. And with Halloween coming around the corner, I can see why they picked that specific word. I too, enjoy writing weird story that are outfitted with details and character development. So writing a ten word story is quite an interesting challenge. Coming up with something with a broad theme...
