My Impression of "Dear Mr Kilmer"

M.

Welcome back to another blog post folks. Today, we're going to discuss Dear Mr Kilmer, and my impression on it. gee, sounds like a Youtube video... can practically hear the music on this one

Let's just straight into it.

Dear Mr Kilmer, written by Anne Schraff, is... in a nutshell, is a story talking about a boy name Richard Knight and his interactions with a poet named Joyce Kilmer that was serving in World War 1. Richard Knight, a boy who likes poetry in a time where men is portrayed as tough and emotionless, is getting salt from his parents for being such a wuss. After a series of events, Richard decides to write a letter to Joyce Kilmer and tells him about his aspirations and hobbies, as the title suggests... "Dear Mr Kilmer." Mr Kilmer obviously responds to Richard and the two exchange letters frequently... Until Joyce Kilmer dies during the second battle of Marne in 1918...

Now about my impression on the novel.

The novel is simply marvellous. It opens up beautifully, and closes without leaving any plot-holes open. Richard Knight, as a person who enjoys poetry during a time where men are expected to be emotionless bullet-hoses, is certainly unique and brave for chasing his aspirations of writing poetry despite his family's disagreements. Joyce Kilmer, which is a really understanding person throughout the story, unfortunately died... which is a shame... He was good man that became the idol of Richard Knight, allowing him to not fear the consequences of pursuing his goals.

Cheers
Chua.

I was rushing this so I probably missed out a lot of details soz.

Writing a 10 word story

Welcome back folks. Sadly, it seems that third time isn't a charm. Oh well, back to basics. Anyway, I hope you had a good week. I'm sure many of you had written essays throughout your lifetime. Whether its an essay for school which is usually 200 ~ 400 words long, a story (length may vary) or even a thesis paper (thousands). Depending on your age and level of English education of course. Personal record, 13 thousand words in a story named Chrono Switch . I assume you already read the title and hence clicked on this post for... actually why did you clicked on this post? Either way, we were instructed to write a ten word story, with the word "spooky" being mandatory in the story. And with Halloween coming around the corner, I can see why they picked that specific word. I too, enjoy writing weird story that are outfitted with details and character development. So writing a ten word story is quite an interesting challenge. Coming up with something with a broad theme...

The Philosophy of Tetris

"I am the man who arranges the blocks, that continue to fall from up above..." I believe most of you of you know what Tetris is. Most of you are likely to have played it, or at least heard about it. Be it the charming 8-bit music, the satisfying beep after a line is completed, or just the blocks that fall into place one by one, filling the gaps, I"m sure that we all can agree upon the fact that Tetris is one of the best classic game we have ever played. While I was revisiting the game, trying to break another player's high score, I realize that, even in a simple game such as Tetris, which has the main goal of trying to get the best score you can through stacking blocks and aligning them, I can't help but think of the true meaning of Tetris. So today, let's explore the philosophy behind the Tetris. Keep in mind, that this is my opinion. Feel free to judge... constructively. First concept You don't have to be perfect to fit in Before we jump into...

Story starting with a sentence given by Pn Monica

L. ------ Ping.. My mobile phone lit up with a message from Pn. Monica.... It was a late Friday night, and after a long week people are surely tired and wanted to take a break. The message started a lot of distraught, since people wanted to take a break on a Saturday. "Please go to the library tomorrow. I have an important task for you." Sure enough, the request sparked a lot of questions in the group chat, varying from asking why do we have to go to school on a Saturday, or how important this task is, to mindless puns and jokes about said task. Following morning, we gathered in the library, chattering about what a hassle it is to get out of bed on a warm, cozy, Saturday morning. Just when the crowd began to get heated on discussing what they're going to do, Pn Monica emerges from her office, and carrying a thick book inscribed in an language that none of us has seen before. She place the thick book down on the table with a loud thump. "That's one h...
