Story starting with a sentence given by Pn Monica

Ping.. My mobile phone lit up with a message from Pn. Monica....

It was a late Friday night, and after a long week people are surely tired and wanted to take a break. The message started a lot of distraught, since people wanted to take a break on a Saturday.

"Please go to the library tomorrow. I have an important task for you."

Sure enough, the request sparked a lot of questions in the group chat, varying from asking why do we have to go to school on a Saturday, or how important this task is, to mindless puns and jokes about said task.

Following morning, we gathered in the library, chattering about what a hassle it is to get out of bed on a warm, cozy, Saturday morning. Just when the crowd began to get heated on discussing what they're going to do, Pn Monica emerges from her office, and carrying a thick book inscribed in an language that none of us has seen before. She place the thick book down on the table with a loud thump.

"That's one heavy book. What are we doing today Pn Monica? I could be at home playing Dota 2 right now!" complained Jia Jun, the tutor for English.

"This, my class, is the Harbinger of Knowledge. It contains the secrets of the universe, or should I say... universes."

*for context purposes, this story is linked to another story i'm writing, named Paradox. Main premise of the story is that humans in another universe found out that parellel universes exist and subsequently gets invaded by another universe's beings.... so yeah"

Pn Monica flips open the book and an outburst of words that no one could comprehend emerges from the dusty pages of the book. The words swirl around the room, and lands perfectly in front of us, forming a circle on the floor. Curiosity took some of our conscience, and we started trying to move the circle of words, but it wouldn't budge.

"So... Since we're always in the class and Jia Jun always sleep, I'd say we have a field trip to various places in the world. You know, bit of sight-seeing and studying on the go."

Lighting a match and throwing it in the middle of the circle, the entire circle of mystical words burns. And within seconds, the circle turns into a swirling portal, which looks like the top view of a tornado.

"Is this safe?"

"Who knows?"

Pn Monica jumps into the portal, and after hesitating for awhile, the rest of us figured that it probably won't hurt to go for a little adventure.

*woosh*

Flashing colours in our vision when we're travelling through the portal, and finally, a blinding flash.
After a short break due to a blinding light, we opened our eyes and see...

"Where are we, Pn Monica?"

"See for yourself."

What appears to be a blinding light turns out to be the life-source of our planet- The Sun. Most of us didn't freak out about the Sun's existence, but the place we're at. A large metropolis, which contains high-rises that seemingly touched the sky's edge, and flying vehicles. A number of people can be seen enjoying their lives; walking leisurely, or hanging out in their balcony having drinks.

Pn Monica noticed that we are getting half the message, and decide to just break the news to us.

"Welcome class, to Mars, in the year 2077."

"Wait teacher, are you kidding us? Mars? Isn't this Earth?"

Pn Monica explained that in her recent experimentations with the Harbinger, she travelled to different points in time and observed mankind's advancements. One such advancement, was the invention of the M.T.D., The Mars Terra-forming Device, where numerous of them were landed on the vast empty plains of Mars and proceeded to terra-formed the place into a habitable planet.

"Now none of you can complain about having nothing to write about the future of mankind. Welp, enough sight-seeing, let's go to another place."

The Harbinger spits out another set of words, and a portal is thus created.

*woosh again*

"Where are we now? Venus?"

"Very funny, Jia Jun. Look around you, and observe."

A large thump sounded near us, and the ground shook. Sound of horn was sounded, akin to that of an elephant.

"Africa?"

"Close. Why don't you turn around a look what's making that horn sound?"

Everyone turns around, and to their astonishment, a woolly mammoth is behind them. Some of us started screaming and fleeing, while others decided to get a closer look of the once-thought extinct animal.

"That's not the point students... Jia Jun, let go of the mammoth. You're making it angry."

The mammoth starts chasing Jia Jun around the plains, which for some miraculous reason, Jia Jun is able to outrun the mammoth.

Not wanting to bother in Jia Jun's shenanigans, Pn Monica pointed out that the fact that there is a group of humanoid figures in the distance, gathering round the fire and dancing to it. The group decides to take a closer look. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be a group of proto-present-humans, which just learned to harness the power of fire.

A few of us which actually studies History explained that this is the most important thing that happened in human history, the way our ancestors studied and harnessed the power of fire.

"Alright, time's up. We're going back to the present. Jia Jun! Stop messing with the mammoth!"

Pn Monica opens the book once last time, and the words did what they did. A portal opened, and we all jumped in. Jia Jun noticed that it was his chance to escape the grasp of the mammoth, and quickly fled towards the portal.

We all appeared back into the school library after a session of wibbly-wobbly-time-travel-loop.

"So class, what can we conclude from this lesson?"

Collectively, the class said, though out of sync-

"The progress of humanity is a long-winded process, yet through numerous amount of natural and man-made disasters, humanity still persists through time and held high during the low tides of life. To achieve what we saw in the future, we have to work hard to ensure that it happen, but remember what our ancestors did in the past, because without them, there wouldn't be today, and there wouldn't be us."

"Good, class. Good."

"So... what's the topic for today's blog post teacher? Does it have anything to do with our trips?"

"Nope. Your title today would be "Ping... My mobile phone lit up with a message from Pn Monica... Have fun writing! It must have at least 350 words, and not a weird story like what Chua did."

The class lets out a collective groan, while Pn Monica returns to her office with the Harbinger of Knowledge.

ICT-ton and Carnival 2018

Well it's sad to say I missed this one purely because I was busy and no other reason. So I'm going to sum the event up through friends' experiences. To start off, there was a senamrobik activity in the morning. This is quite weird as... you know... it's a carnival.... not Sports Day to be exact. Nevertheless, that happened. I'm guessing most of the participants weren't wearing the proper attire as they didn't get the memo till the last minute. Besides, there was a dunking game that was setup by the Scouts. Though I didn't go to the carnival personally, a few clips circulated around social media such as Facebook and Instagram and that's how I know Joash from 4 Balau got dunked. Mr James that was a former teacher in the school along with Pn Lau got dunked as well. Lastly, the Teen Star Talent show. Again, I didn't go to the carnival so I do not know half of what happened during the event, but the highlight of the carnival was Mr Ganapathy, th...

Optimism / Pessimism Bias

Welcome back, friends. Exam weeks was long and harsh, but now it's over. Hooray! As for the blog posts, they're starting again and this time, oh boy, free topic for days (at least I hope so). So fasten your seat belts as we explore more random topics for no apparent reason. Today's Topic : Optimism/Pessimism Bias "Great, another bias. What's next? K-Drama bias? Anime bias? Jeez, at least talk about something positive." Well, positive things aren't always fun to write. So... cliche and boring. I rather dig into negative stuff just to find out what causes them and how we can solve them. Doesn't  that sound positive to you? Either way, let's jump into today's topic. I'm going to cover both Optimism bias and Pessimism bias in the same blog post, because they usually are found together in a statement. But before that, let's ask ourselves this common question that is used to test optimism and pessimism. Is the cup half full or h...

First Week of School

First Week of School (SMKDJ) The very first week of the first school semester. Some dread it, while others look forward to it. To me, neither of both mattered. A month of holiday might sound good to take a break after a long year of hard work and constant studying to prepare for PT3, but after a week or so, you start to get that feeling of missing being with your friends in school, doing activities together. (not group work with random people that don't know each other really well) New semester, new class, new classmates and a whole new timetable to memorize. First week is always pretty exciting, since you get to meet your friends again after a long month. What's more exciting is that the classes. While some might be boring, others can be quite fascinating. Since it's the first week, nothing much other than normal classes and longer than average speeches from Mr.Ganapathy. The changes for co-curriculum were quite interesting too, but transporters...
