Sapiens

V. "It's awake." Ignotum points at the humanoid figure in the dark observation room. "That took a while. I thought you used the lowest grade tranquillizer we have?" Mirum replied. "That was the lowest grade tranquillizer we have. Y'know what, we brought it here. Let's just get the information we needed and get out." Ignotum and Mirum both walked towards the enclosed room, their hands with 3 fingers holding a list of questions that have bugged them about the humanoid figure. Upon walking into the room, the humanoid being stared at them with terror and attempts to run away. "Calm down, we're not here to hurt you," Ignotum said. "Please, have a seat here. We have much to discuss." A light in the room switched on, revealing a table and chairs made of a weird iridescent material, akin to glass, but shimmering in rainbow colours. Confused, the humanoid being took a sit, with Ignotum and Mirum sitting oppos...

Procrastination

U. Welp, I'm back with another blog post when I should be studying. Oh well, there goes my Biology marks :P Anyways, welcome back to another blog post folks. I have zero ideas why you are reading this, but hey, it's your life, do what you want, I'm not going to stop you. So today, we're going to be talking about something we all do often in our lives. Procrastination. Also, keep in mind I'm no psychology major. Just wanted to share some stuff. Now, have you ever asked yourself why do you procrastinate all the time? Maybe it's your homework, stacking up endlessly as time goes by while you just sit there, telling yourself: "I'm going to start at 1 pm." But, when 1 pm comes around, you go: "Oh, it's already 1.01 pm. I think I should start at 2 pm instead." Then the cycle goes on and you'll do the homework on the last minute.  Why do we procrastinate? As it turns out, like everything else in nature, there's no easy answe...

Trudging through The Dark Forest

Look at me, while everyone is studying to get good grades, I'm over here writing blogs that no one will bother to read. Hurray! I need a better hobby... The Dark Forest Theory. It's possible one of the more plausible and interesting theory as to why we don't have alien visitors yet, other than the Zoo Hypothesis. And because I'm bored, let's talk about it. Through this well-made video by Lemmino, titled  The Great Silence ,  it provoked a few thoughts about why our lovely little planet Earth hasn't gotten any known visitors from other worlds yet. Why? Perhaps because, in the eyes of the extra-terrestrials, we are too primitive. To them, we might be just cavemen playing with our self-driving cars, while they stroll around from galaxies to galaxies with Faster-Than-Light travel.  Here's a good analogy. You were walking in the park and you saw a few ants. You could either a) avoid stepping on them or b) step on them. This summarizes any alien if and when ...

Sundering Through the Skies

I'm bored, so here's another random blogpost. You'll be fine. No matter what you're going through right now, you'll be fine. Now, this blog post might already start to sound weird, but I'm directing it to everyone that's currently stuck between a rock in a hard place, be it in a terrible work situation, a shit ton of homework to cope with, a bad relationship, no relationship, or an assignment or a test due next week. This is the blog post, for you. Yes, yes. It's already sounding like some cliche bullshit. "Always a silver lining between the clouds." And well, you're not entirely wrong, but when our minds are tangled up like the Gordian knot, nothing will ever seem to make sense. Problems in life will start to look like weird mathematics equations, complicated, long, and hard to solve. The more you look at it, the more frustrated, the more angry and desperate you'll get. Trust me, I know the feels too well. It is not my plac...

Let's not call ourselves Malaysians

T. Oh no. Sound the alarms! Someone is trying to rebel against the Malaysian Government!  FBI OPEN UP. Calm down... I'm not trying to rebel or anything. Seriously, I'm not. Welcome back to another blog post folks, it's been a long while. Today, we're going to talk about a very niche topic, one that most of us won't even consider in our daily lives. And well, given what most of us go through on a daily basis, I don't blame you. So, let's get started. Recently, Voyager 1, the farthest probe from Earth currently, piqued my interests. The story of Voyager 1 is a sad one, destined to roam the void endlessly until an alien being intercepts it or it runs out of power. Now, that scenario if an alien being intercepts it is the much more interesting part. On the Voyager Probe, there's a golden disc, which contains a wide array about things about humanity. Our history, our culture, our languages. To think that one day, when humanity eventually ends...

The Importance of Listening - When, and why

R. Welcome back to another blog post folks. Listening. It's something we do every day, without really acknowledging it or appreciating it. It's something we are so used to that when we lose it, instant regret flushes through our systems. Hence, since Pn Monica gave us this topic this week, let's talk about the importance of listening. Listening is a mean to understand what a person or an object is trying to convey with audio signals. Just like how an animal has mating calls and roars, humans have languages, which, without doubt, makes thing easier to understand. For humans, at least. So, when do we listen? Just like everything else, this depends on the situation of course. Most of the time, in class, you should  be listening to whatever your teachers are teaching, be it English, Malay, Chinese or Physics, Chemistry or Biology. Listening is key when learning as teachers will provide an insight to said topics, allowing a better understanding of the topics, and thus ...

Isolation

S. Welcome back to another blog post folks, to preface this, this blog is going to be a long one, so um leave now if you don't like that. Also, if anyone is here just to see what topic it is for this week... uhm, don't. Because I chose to do a free topic here and did my literature essay in my literature book. So yeah, let's begin. Homo Sapiens . The only species from the genus Homo still exists. Of course, we have half-Neanderthals living around the world, but for the sake of this blog post, let's just say that we only have Homo Sapiens  around, okay? Once upon a time on Earth, there are several species from the genus Homo , 15, in fact, so far. Yet, as of today, 2019, we only know of one that successfully persisted through several wars and famine, disasters and conflicts, the Homo Sapiens . We built civilization from the ground up, stemming from rivers of the world, then conquering the world itself.  As much as I would like to talk about Homo Sapiens an...

My English Blog

R. Welcome back to another blog post folks. Today, we're going to talk about... scrolls Whatsapp ... give me a minute...  Huh.  My feelings on the blog and whether it has benefited me thus far. So let's talk about that. Ah... An English Block of Word . Not the best name I came out with, but it's still quite creative. I started this blog last year January on the 6th. At first when I came about the idea of writing a blog, actually no, it wasn't an idea, it was a weekly homework given by our dear teacher Pn Monica, with different topics every week. Honestly, when I first got the assignment to write a blog as homework, I was kind of amazed. Integration of the usage of the Internet and it's on my favourite subject? Score. Of course, this wasn't the first time I started the blog, my third time, in fact, the last two being some websites to share my own written fictional stories to my friends. Given a platform, and a focus to write on makes everything much easier ...

What I learned from my classmates’ and my ULBS Presentations

Q. Welcome back to another weekly blog post folks. As the final ULBS draws to an end, our favourite teacher Pn Monica decided to give us a blog topic on that instead of writing about Charity Concert which happened yesterday. So let's jump straight into it. ULBS, if I'm not wrong, is a way for teachers to gauge how well a student is able to speak fluently, i.e. (in other words, not e.g. -which means example.) how smoothly you can talk in front of a group of people, in this case, your classmates. This year, we were not given the courtesy of selecting our own topics, which for me, is very sad, since I wanted to talk about videogames and how amazing they are. All of our ULBS were based on past year questions on Dear Mr Kilmer. To summarize most parts, it was pretty interesting to say the least, as I did not really read through Dear Mr Kilmer in detail and have zero ideas on where the evidence to certain questions would be. Certainly opened my eyes on this one. Besides, I got ...

Free Topic- What I Love Or Abhor About It

O. Welcome back to another blog post folks. Today we're going to talk about Free Topic. Literally. For the second time in fact. If you read my blog, sometime during last year, I've already talked about free topics and how it is either frustrating or fun to write a free topic. Since teacher hasn't replied the group yet, I might as well just wing this, again. Prepare for Free Topic 2: Electric Boogaloo. Now, if you are a frequent reader of my blogs (thanks, idk why you wasting time but sure, why not eh?), you'll notice that most my free topics talk about Science, Philosophy, or History. Or all three at times. Sometimes its random stories that I like writing, e.g. Gaia's Tragedy. (if anyone is waiting for the next chapter, soz, its not going to work, too many plotholes.) So, free topics. I love them. Because through free topics, I get to talk and introduce topics that are usually obscure to a normal person, like every one of us who are too busy studying and hav...

Thesaurus Quizzes

M. Well, I'm glad the exams are over as shit as my results can be :P. Let's jump straight into this blog.  Thesaurus. Everyone likes using them, right? Just in case you have no idea what exactly is a thesaurus, I'll explain here. Unfortunately, its not a name for a newly discovered dinosaur, though that is probably going to be the laziest name I can think of other than "Ekans" and "Arbok", which are snake-type Pokemons. In case you didn't get that, rearrange the words from back to front. Anyway, a thesaurus is where you can find synonyms and antonyms for a word. It's like a dictionary, but instead of finding definitions of a word, you'll find several renditions of it. It is certainly most useful when you need to write the same thing in the same paragraph twice, reducing the amount of repeated words, and ultimately makes your essay/blog/whatever-that-is-you're-writing much more interesting and less boring. All in all, a good tool. ...

My experience being part of a class play.

N. Welcome back to another blog post folks. Exam week is upon us. So, class play. Competition was on last Thursday, 28th February. Initially winner was 5 Balau, but who knows what will change the results. All in all, pretty fun yet stressful event for me. Evonne did get best actress so... That's something. But Chua, why is it stressful? I'm glad you ask, whoever you are. Or well, if you didn't ask, just enjoy the... drama. I'm sorry. I was the main scriptwriter for 5 Belian 2k19. Volunteered in fact. It did quenched my everlasting thirst of writing a play, but, after experiencing that, I feel like it's not worth it, or maybe I'm just pathetic at writing. There's a reason why this is stressful. It's a class drama, hence cohesion among everyone participating has to be there. Otherwise everything falls apart. And guess what, it did. We couldn't agree on a plot until 2 weeks before the drama competition, and then internal conflicts ...

How I’m going to utilise my English period on Monday 25 February 2019

P. "I decided not to be boring." - Pn Monica, 2k19. Wise words to follow. So, Monday. Everyone likes Mondays. Probably. The much-awaited drama competition of SMKDJ that is going to happen this Thursday, on the 28th of February, involves all 6 classes of Form 5s. So, in order to not embarrass ourselves during the actual competition, my class and I decided to practice our drama during the English periods on Monday 25th, February 2019, which is tomorrow. So, to begin the practice, we're going to start off by practising the drama scenes over, and over, and over again. This is obviously, really vital to the competition, as we all frequently say, practice makes perfect. Then, we'll make sure that the props are done and are usable, courtesy of our great propmaster Chlarine. Thanks fam. Doing a few practices with the props should be important since we have to know what to do and when to do it during the competition. Then, of course, proofreading the script for the ...

Malaysia is a multicultural country. Describe a festival you celebrate in Malaysia.

O. Ah, we're going to talk about Malaysia again. Seems like an unbiased opinion but who knows? Malaysia, as the title stated, and as we all know, is a multicultural country. Whether you enjoy its intricate cuisine, culture or the diversity of things, we can all agree that its one of its kind in the world, a truly unique country on Earth. Speaking of cultures, we, of course, have to talk about the multitude of festivals there is to celebrate in Malaysia due to its cultures, and perhaps due to the recent Chinese New Year celebrations, Pn M decided to make a blog topic out of it. So here we are... So many options to choose from, yet I could only choose one to talk about. So, I, being Chinese and all, despite being terrible in the Chinese language, am going to talk about Chinese New Year. Even though the name starts with a "Chinese", it is of course celebrated by everyone in Malaysia. Every Chinese New Year has a new zodiac animal, and for this year, it is the pig. I...

Discuss the plurality of Malaysian society and its effect on you

I'm not doing that letter thing lol Welcome back to another blog post folks. I hope you had a nice week or day. Either way, I would like to discuss the plurality of Malaysian society and its effects on me. Now, we all know what Malaysian society is like, and how diverse it is. Seriously, look around you when you are in town, you'll see Chinese, Malays, and Indians around- they make up most of the Malaysian population, then a handful of other races to complete the incomplete circle of Malaysia. It's truly one of the more unique factors of our country. That being said, let's dive into our main point. Living in Malaysia is like striking a lottery in my honest opinion. In other parts of the world, let's say for the sake of simplicity, China or the US, you'll only learn one major language, that is Chinese or English respectively. You're never specifically told to go study both at the same time, and thus creating a problem when you eventually go out from...

My Impression of "Dear Mr Kilmer"

M.  Welcome back to another blog post folks. Today, we're going to discuss Dear Mr Kilmer, and my impression on it. gee, sounds like a Youtube video ... can practically hear the music on this one Let's just straight into it. Dear Mr Kilmer, written by Anne Schraff, is... in a nutshell, is a story talking about a boy name Richard Knight and his interactions with a poet named Joyce Kilmer that was serving in World War 1. Richard Knight, a boy who likes poetry in a time where men is portrayed as tough and emotionless, is getting salt from his parents for being such a wuss. After a series of events, Richard decides to write a letter to Joyce Kilmer and tells him about his aspirations and hobbies, as the title suggests... "Dear Mr Kilmer." Mr Kilmer obviously responds to Richard and the two exchange letters frequently... Until Joyce Kilmer dies during the second battle of Marne in 1918... Now about my impression on the novel. The novel is simply marvellous. It op...
